Dr. McCurdy explains more about the binding and function of 7-HMG. Although not present in the fresh leaves, 7-HMG has been found at levels from nonexistent to very high in scientists’ analyses of kratom products. He discusses the “buyer beware” environment around kratom products. A study is presented on what happened when MG and 7-HMG were substituted for morphine in studies of animals. Other questions include whether these two constituents of kratom are potentially abusable and addictive, and whether mode of administration makes a difference. Metabolism is introduced.
