Kevin McBryde, M.D., is acting director and a physician (research) in the Office of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs (OCRA) at the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). Dr. McBryde’s research expertise includes exploring the prevalence, etiologies, and treatment of chronic kidney disease in pediatric and adolescent populations infected with HIV. Dr. McBryde has also researched the use of continuous renal (kidney) replacement therapy in pediatric intensive care units and the use of kidney replacement therapy for the treatment of metabolic disturbances in inborn errors of metabolism. 

Prior to joining NCCIH, Dr. McBryde served as medical monitor at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), Division of Extramural Research, where he was an advisor on topics such as human subjects, including the risk assessment and oversight recommendations of awards involving human subjects. At NIDCR, he also reviewed Serious Adverse Event and Unanticipated Problems reports, conducted protocol reviews, and oversaw conduct and progress of clinical research awards as an independent safety monitor. Dr. McBryde has also served as program director at the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), Office of Minority Health Research Coordination (OMHRC), where he oversaw a research portfolio on health disparities research; workforce diversity; and promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion within professional societies. Dr. McBryde was also a medical officer at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Gastroenterology and Renal Devices Branch, Office of Device Evaluation (ODE), Center for Devices and Radiological Health. Before entering Federal service, Dr. McBryde was an assistant professor of pediatrics at both Children’s National Medical Center at George Washington University School of Medicine, as well as Temple University School of Medicine. 

Dr. McBryde earned his M.D. from Emory University School of Medicine, as well as a B.A in political science from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently matriculated in the M.H.Sc. degree track through the Duke University–National Institutes of Health Clinical Research Training Program. He completed his residency in general pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, and his fellowship in pediatric nephrology at the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan.
