Time-Sensitive Funding Opportunity for Prevention Research in Health Disparity Populations
July 14, 2022
Monday, August 1 is the deadline to submit applications in response to NOT-OD-22-159, Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Administrative Supplements to Support Research on Preventive Interventions with Populations that Experience Health Disparities (Admin Supp Clinical Trial Optional).
If you have an active National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant or cooperative agreement, this funding opportunity may be for you. It’s designed to support NIH grantees who can add, enhance, or strengthen preventive intervention research with populations that experience health disparities within the scope of their existing projects. Here are some key details:
- Parent awards that involve testing prospective interventions, including preventive, treatment, or disease self-management interventions, or the development or pilot/feasibility testing of such interventions, are good matches for this funding opportunity.
- For the purposes of this NOSI, preventive interventions include those for both primary prevention (altering risk factors before health conditions occur) and secondary prevention (screening to identify health conditions and intervening to reduce the risk of disease progression).
- Preventive interventions that address social and structural determinants of health at the interpersonal, organizational, community, and societal levels are strongly encouraged. So are activities conducted in collaboration with relevant community, service system, and/or health care partners.
- Project budgets are limited to $250,000 direct costs and may not exceed the yearly budget of the parent award.
- Requests may be for up to 1 year of support only.
Prevention Research and Health Disparities Are NCCIH Priorities
This funding opportunity targets two key areas of research interest for the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH): prevention research and health disparities.
Preventing disease and promoting and restoring health are key aspects of whole person health, as described in our strategic plan, and we are very interested in supporting research on how complementary and integrative health approaches can help to achieve these goals. NCCIH also seeks to expand the research we support on health disparities and understudied populations. We encourage you to frequently check the page on our website that features NCCIH’s current funding opportunities that focus on health disparities research.
The ADVANCE Initiative
The current NOSI is part of an NIH-wide research effort called ADVANCE (for Advancing Prevention Research for Health Equity), coordinated by the NIH Office of Disease Prevention. ADVANCE is bringing together NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices to address the need for more research on leading health risk factors in health disparity populations. NCCIH is participating in ADVANCE, and we look forward to telling you about many future ADVANCE administrative supplements and other funding opportunities.
For More Information
