I’m excited to announce a new resource for the complementary and integrative health research community—a video library where members of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) program and review staff provide guidance on the grants process, funding opportunities, peer review, and more.

We’ve launched the library with five short videos, each by a different member of our staff:

  • Dr. Jessica McKlveen, director of our Office of Scientific Review, gives tips on how to make sure your grant application is complete, compliant, and responsive so that it can proceed to peer review. Watch the video.
  • I explain how to use NCCIH’s research framework to choose the best funding opportunities for clinical trials at different stages of intervention development. Watch the video.
  • Dr. Jennifer Baumgartner, a program director in the Clinical Research Branch, explains the role of feasibility trials in clinical research and discusses the types of research questions these small-scale studies can and cannot answer. Watch the video.
  • Dr. Sekai Chideya, a program director in the Clinical Research Branch, explains the purposes and sequence of NCCIH’s funding opportunities for clinical research on nutrition and natural products. Watch the video.
  • Dr. Pete Murray, a program director in the Clinical Research Branch, discusses important updates and requirements in NCCIH’s funding opportunities for clinical trials on mind and body practices. Watch the video.

The goal of the new video library is to help investigators better understand some of the complexities of the National Institutes of Health grant application process, especially as it applies to research on complementary and integrative health. We want to provide short and detailed responses to some of the questions we receive most often, and we want to give you the chance to hear directly from our excellent program and review staff. The more you know, the better your application will be. We know the application process can be challenging and we hope you find these videos helpful. Our goal is to support rigorous and impactful research that aligns with the objectives and scientific priorities outlined in NCCIH’s Strategic Plan

I would like to ask for your help in making this new resource as useful as possible. The video library is for you, so your feedback on it is important. Do you like the short video format? Are the topics helpful? Are the links to related resources useful for you? What additional topics would you like us to include? Please share your ideas (up to 200 characters) using the form at the bottom of the video library page. If you need more space, send us an email with the subject “New Video Library.” I look forward to hearing from you!
