Technical Assistance Webinar: NIH HEAL Initiative: Coordinated Approaches to Pain Care in Health Care Systems (UG3/UH3)

Date: September 12, 2024 - 11:30 a.m. ET to 12:30 p.m. ET

Event Description

During this pre-application technical assistance webinar, NIH staff discussed the NIH HEAL Initiative: Coordinated Approaches to Pain Care in Health Care Systems (UG3/UH3 - Clinical Trial Optional) notice of funding opportunity (NOFO; RFA-NS-24-041). The purpose of this webinar was to provide potential grant applicants with an overview of the funding opportunity and address questions from the scientific community. The webinar featured highlights of application considerations from program staff at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and a presentation on review requirements from NCCIH’s Office of Scientific Review.

This funding opportunity solicits applications that propose implementation science methodology to embed existing evidence-based coordinated pain care models into a variety of public and private health care systems (HCS) where this type of care does not exist. Coordinated pain care models of interest to this NOFO are those that are consistent with a biopsychosocial model of pain and provide either integrated pain management centered in and integrated with primary care or provide comprehensive pain management based on referral and in collaboration with primary care. Coordinated pain care approaches proposed for study are expected to include:

  • Multidisciplinary approaches
  • An appropriate medication management program
  • Psychological approaches
  • Physical interventions
  • Complementary interventions (optional)

Notes:
1. Attending this technical assistance webinar was NOT a requirement for submission to this funding opportunity.
2. The application deadline is November 7, 2024.
