Exempt Studies

Studies that are deemed exempt do not require additional National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) oversight but must comply with all applicable National Institutes of Health requirements. For more information about the specific exemption categories, please consult this chart [562 KB PDF].

Some grants propose multiple studies that may be assigned to more than one oversight level. If you have questions about the oversight level of your clinical grant, contact the assigned program director listed on the summary statement.

Reminder: If you are funded for an NCCIH grant, the Notice of Award (NOA) has terms and conditions that are specific to your grant. It is important to carefully review and fulfill the requirements that are outlined in the NOA.
